Welcome to L&D Dialogues Series, the interview series with Hardik Mehta, Business Head, TeamLease EdTech. We have been conducting this knowledge-sharing initiative since 2019, where we invite industry leaders from the L&D fraternity to come together to discuss and debate a topic of interest. For our recent session, we had Rishi Jagmohan Singh, VP of Talent Development, Business Excellence, and Digital Strategy at Wockhardt Ltd.
Rishi is a coach for next-generation leaders. He's certified in digital strategy and coaching processes and is a Golden Peacock Award winner for Training and Development. He has also received Chief Learning Officer of the Year and recently published a Best Seller book titled, Are you a digital dinosaur? A book on digitalization in healthcare. Here’s a snippet from his conversation with us. Read on.
But before jumping into the discussion, on asking about the reason behind the choice of the title for his book, Rishi said, ‘since the digital ecosystem is changing so fast if someone doesn't update themselves on a regular basis, one way or the other, they will become a dinosaur’. Scope of Immersive Learning in the next 10 years in healthcare
The objective of Mr. Singh is really clear: he wants to create
digitization in healthcare that connects every nook and corner of the country.
And since this book was written in 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also
taking this vision through the best practices across the world. And with
Ayushman Bharat it is becoming a reality now.
He has explored various parameters of immersive learning like augmented reality, VR, interactive video training, etc in his career. And after covid now, he is working on revamping these augmented tools to create the SOPs. His main focus is to get the technology working for the people and help in creating videos with the sole purpose of making learning easy.Watch the video here.
Immersive learning in the training of staff
Of course, it
is a wonderful way to train the staff of an organization. Mr. Singh started with
multiple-week training with recorded videos on VR and launched it in a very
innovative manner to the doctors across India. They will take the mobile phones
and give a visiting card to the doctor or customer and ask them to scan it. And
the moment he or she scans, the video of the related Doctor or CEO would pop up.
This was a 100% engaging experience for everybody and resulted in
great reviews from the doctors, customers, and also from the field staff. Watch the video

Is game-based learning helpful to the leadership team?
60%
of leaders feel that there is a lack of implementation and relevancy with
respect to the pain areas for the organization. And many times the L&D
professionals just implement immersive learning for the sake of innovation. But
the beauty is that one should have that business sense. That's the reason Mr.
Singh requests all the L&D people to work with those front-end officers and
get an honest idea of the type of tools to create that are practical and implementable. The
L&D professionals should be grounded and should know the ground
realities under what conditions people actually operate in the market. Another
reason that leaders are apprehensive to try something new is that they feel that
innovations like immersive learning or game-based learning are expensive and require obscene
budgets. But they kind of miss out on the cost-saving point. Watch the video

Let’s see an example of the onboarding process in a company or organization. We have four learning centers or digital centers across India, and we have to do the onboarding in their own headquarters only. If we give them an immersive experience of hiring people online and placing them at the desired location, saving their cost, wouldn’t it be a great deal? So, with a similar cost and better experience, we can use immersive learning and customize it as per the department's requirements. And that’s why nobody wants to end up like a digital dinosaur in today’s time.
